The key to creating an excellent portfolio is choosing the right pictures. This can be difficult when you’re deciding which one shot will make your clients want more, but there are some important tips that should help! In order to get it right every time – no matter what kind of photography work we do – here’s how I decide on my best shots:
1) Ask yourself if this particular photo shows off something unique or interesting about me as an artist/ photographer? Is anyone else recognizable in any part through their facial expressions (i don’t always include myself)? If so then maybe choose another shot.
2) Is the photo showing off my technical skills in photography? My shots should always be sharp, well-exposed and composed nicely.
3) Are the colors of this shot popping or too dull? Colors can make a big difference in how successful your portfolio is. Make sure it has enough contrast to stand out!
4) Is the photo interesting enough that someone would want to look at it again? This is important because people will likely be looking at your portfolio multiple times, so make sure you grab their attention with something different and creative.
5) Is this photo something that I’m proud of and excited to show off? Make sure you only include photos that make you feel awesome and proud of your work.
Why you should consider a photography portfolio?
When deciding whether to create a photography portfolio, it’s important to consider why you want one in the first place.
- A portfolio can help you get more jobs and assignments as a photographer, but it’s not just about the business side of things.
- Your portfolio can also be a way to show off your creative work and skills to friends and family, or even the general public.
- If you’re looking for ways to improve your photography skills, a portfolio can be a great way to track your progress.
- Seeing your photos organized in one place can help you better understand what works and what doesn’t, and give you ideas for future projects.
- And lastly, a portfolio can be a valuable resource for learning more about photography as an art form.
By analyzing other photographers’ work, you can see how they approach different subjects or situations, and learn new techniques that you can apply to your own photos.
Don’ts of choosing photos for your portfolio
When creating a photography portfolio, it’s important to be aware of some of the things that can make your portfolio less successful.
Avoid including photos that are out of focus or poorly composed – these will instantly turn away potential clients. Also, try not to fill your portfolio with too many similar shots – variety is key!
Finally, be conscious of copyright issues when adding images to your portfolio. Make sure that all the photos you use are yours, or if they aren’t, that you have permission from the photographer.
Creating a great photography portfolio doesn’t have to be difficult – just follow these tips and you’ll be sure to create something amazing! Good luck!
